Winning Attitudes

For Christmas, I received a nifty calendar that has a word of advice for every single day of the year. That means there are 366 of these. It will be well worth the time!

 

January 

  1. Our example outlives our achievements
  2. A good boss is one who knows philosophically where the ship is going and why
  3. To have no more dreams is to rob life of its meaning
  4. We, at any age, are treated the way we invite treatment
  5. Contentment to savor the present comes from experiencing life’s pleasures and the sorrows from the past
  6. We never grow old emotionally. Our bodies change, but our emotional needs do not.
  7. Hardships color all life, but you choose the color. Color it bright.
  8. The best thing about aging is that it cuts down on peer pressure.
  9. A word of encouragement will bring joy, love, peace, acceptance and a simile – other than that, not much more.
  10. Friendship consists of forgetting what one gives and remembering what one receives.
  11. Spiders, snakes, bats and negative people do one thing: they give people the creeps!
  12. Since we are made up of bits and pieces of people, may each of us be chips of love.
  13. Your road for a successful life will be dotted with many parking lots!
  14. If you see someone without a smile, lend him yours.
  15. You won’t get that dumped on feeling if you learn something from every person you work with.
  16. Encouragement means your friend gains courage from being with you.
  17. The language of love is understood by all.
  18. We love ourselves not withstanding our faults, and we ought to love our friends in the same manner.
  19. Hate is sand in the machinery of life – love is oil.
  20. The solutions to all our problems are more of the heart than of the law.**
  21. The remedy for wrongs is to forget them.**
  22. Be charitable before wealth makes you covetous.
  23. The brightest blaze of intelligence is of less value than the smallest spark of charity.
  24. Of him that hopes to be forgiven, it is required that he forgives.
  25. The place to be happy is here. The time to be happy is now. The way to be happy is to make others happy.
  26. You can break the chain of gossip by refusing to be a link.**
  27. It isn’t our position but our disposition that makes us happy.
  28. A good thing to remember and a better thing to do is to work with the construction gang and not with the wrecking crew.****
  29. The purest pleasures are found in useful work.
  30. To be without some of the things you want is an indispensable part of happiness.
  31. Unhappiness is not knowing what we want and killing ourselves to get it. **

 

February

  1. Always keep your head up, but be careful to keep your nose on a friendly level.
  2. A man travels the world over in search of what he needs and returns home to find it.
  3. A smile is a curve that can set a lot of things straight.
  4. It is good to let a little sunshine out as well as in.
  5. The foolish man seeks happiness in the distance; the wise man grows it under his feet.
  6. A lot of good could be accomplished in this world if nobody cared who got the credit.
  7. All men desire peace; few desire the thing which makes for peace.
  8. A good memory is fine – but the ability to forget is the true test of greatness.
  9. Doing nothing is the most tiresome job in the world because you can not quit and rest.
  10. Don’t hurry, don’t worry, do your best, leave the rest.
  11. To carry care to bed is to sleep with a pack on your back.
  12. Life consists of not in holding good cards but in playing those you do hold well.
  13. Never give up on anybody. Miracles happen every day.
  14. Free enterprise gives everybody a chance to get to the top. Some depend too much on the free and not enough on the enterprise.
  15. The grass is greener on the other side, but it is just as hard to mow.
  16. The dictionary is the only place success comes before work.
  17. Any time a man takes a stand, there will come a time when he'll be tested to see how firm his feet are planted.
  18. The aim of education is to teach us how to think, not what to think.
  19. Instruction may end in the classroom, but education ends only with life.
  20. Talent knows what to do; tact knows when and how to do it.
  21. Firmness is that admirable quality in ourselves that is merely stubbornness in others.

March

  1. Do not be like the rooster who thought the sun rose to hear him crow.

  2. If the whole world followed you, followed to the letter, Tell me -- if it followed you, would the world be better?

  3. He tried to be somebody trying to be like everybody, which makes him a nobody.

  4. Think all you speak but speak not all you think.

  5. Habit is either the best of servants or the worst of masters.

  6. Sow an act and your reap a habit. Sow a habit and you reap a character. Sow a character and you reap a destiny. ****

  7. Prosperity's right hand is industry, and her left hand is fragility.

  8. A man is rich in proportion to the number of things he can afford to let alone.

  13. It's better to look where you're going than to where you've been. (Especially if you're not too crazy about where you've been.)

  14. Almost anything in life is easier to get into than out of.

  15. Nothing improves the hearing more than praise.

  16. Each day should be unwrapped like a precious gift. ****

  17. Don't be afraid to take a big step. You can't cross a chasm in two small jumps.

  18. When you are at peace with yourself, any place is home. ****

  19. Happy are those who dream dreams and are ready to pay the price to make them come true.

  20. The longest journey starts with a single step.

  21. A friend is one who comes in when the world has gone out.

  22. Friendship is to people what sunshine is to flowers.

  23. Like a tree we each must find a place to grow and branch out.

  24. The rocky road before you now may lead to a rainbow.
